Science & Technology (S&T) and Research & Development (R&D) are the next core thrust area for the bright future of our motherland. The fundamental requirement to be competent in this area one can imagine is the knowledge based society which includes, ofcourse, scientists and technologists. And if we look around I dont think that we have shortage of this assets its up to them how fast they can make sure that the transition to a modern India or one may call a developed India could be achieved.
Definitely there are many achievements in the past, a few are as listed below, can be improved by our scientists and technologists to be able to compete in this cutting edge technology age.
1) Self-sufficient in the food requirement thats a great achievement now needs to put more efforts on the R&D to improve the quality of nutrition. Why I am giving importance on this ; to reduce, as much as could possibly, dependence on chemical fertilizers and substitute it by bio-fertilizers, improvement of general public health, save as much as drinking water. Because any imbalance will have direct impacts, including on the environment.
2) We have achieved a lot in the pharmaceutical industry mostly allopathic (sick .. pls. check spelling) medicines but I think we are short on R&D on the indigenous desi plants, shrubs, medicines which have been in use for ages. I read an article a year back that in Germany a research was undergoing on Tulsi plant. And we know well how this plant is known to us but best to my knowledge we have never done a scientific research on this plant. This is just an example there are several desi medicines some of them are like real magic never exposed to their potentials and their usage were limited in a certain geographical areas only.
More later as we go..
